After years working to educate people from all walks of life about the health and environmental benefits of real food, it is disheartening to see our society become LESS healthy in spite of so much media attention on health. Chronic disease rates have been on the rise for decades and over half of Americans regularly take prescription medications. At the same time it is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate the confusing messages from food industry advertising and misleading scientific headlines telling us what we should or shouldn’t be eating.
We are understandably drawn to the latest diet trend that promises to make us thinner, give us more energy or reverse our chronic symptoms of unwellness. These diets don’t account for our unique individual differences and more often than not fail to deliver on their lofty promises.
The simple fact is that one size does not fit all!
Most of us, as children, are not taught which foods and lifestyle habits can nourish our bodies and minds. There is no public education on how to identify real food from its processed imposters. We need to educate ourselves with solid, evidence-based nutritional smarts and embrace simple ways to make nourishing food taste satisfying and delicious. Most importantly, we each need to discover the eating approach works best for us.
